MPH professional with different perspectives and cultural exposures.
I was born and raised in El Salvador. Growing up in my country, I developed a great sense of empathy; our sense of community was great despite all adversities and systemic challenges. Thus, while studying for my undergraduate degree in Communication Science, I specialized in working in Social Communications and non-profits. I also choose my volunteer, internships, and work experiences in organizations and companies that seek to benefit communities and individuals.
When I moved to Los Angeles, CA, I sought to continue serving communities through my work. My first job was at a non-profit serving public schools and families in the LA Promise zone (primarily a Central American community), and it was my first experience working in public health. While working at the non-profit, I realized I had found the career pathway for the rest of my professional career. Therefore, I decided to keep growing academically and professionally in public health and applied to master programs in public health (MPH). In 2022, I started the MPH program at UCLA and will soon graduate on June 14, 2024. I look forward to applying my new skills and knowledge in the field.
