CHS292: Information Technology for Health Promotion and Communication - UCLA

For CHS292, I created health education materials to enhance screen time learning and parent-child interactions. A literature review, creative brief, storyline, and Scribus program shaped the final product: a photo novella.

Problem Statement: Excessive screen time, defined as more than 1 hour a day for preschoolers (2-5 years old), could lead to developmental issues in younger children. Healthy People 2030 found that only 38.7% of children aged 2 to 5 years old between 2020-2021 got no more than 1 hour of screen time a day, compared to 43.9% between 2018-2019.

Parents can’t change the social barriers causing excessive screen time in children. How to help disadvantaged families with communication materials?

Concepts of the Health Belief Model: susceptibility, severity, benefits, barriers, cue to action, and self-efficacy

Key Promise
Parent involvement and the use of accessible and key strategies can enhance screen time learning and provide control and peace of mind for parents who are facing social barriers to reducing screen time.
